AGMA standards: Did you know?

There are controlling documents that govern most of the aspects of gear and gearbox design.  The American Gear Manufacturer’s Association (AGMA) documents define gear tooth quality, gear rating, gear materials, gearbox component design (i.e., shafting, keys, splines, etc.) and many other topics.  If your product is not rated to these standards, it may not be equivalent to Cotta product!

Bearing kits: Did you know?

Cotta bearing kits are a combination of two bearings and two spacers that are paired together and match-ground to produce the desired end play. This means that one element cannot be replaced individually. The entire bearing kit must be replaced or re-ground to original specifications.

   

 

High-Speed Gearbox Model SN2231-2

Cotta recently designed this new High-Speed Gearbox Model SN2231-2 for component testing use by a leading U.S. aviation and aerospace product manufacturer. Our Model SN2231-2 is a foot-mounted, dual output, high-speed gearbox that is built for test stand use. This unit is designed for bi-rotational rotation.

Model Series SN2231-2 High-Speed Gearbox Specifications:

  • Continuous Rating of 400 hp at 7,200 to 16,000 rpm
  • Max Output Speed of 18,000 rpm
  • Ratios of 1 to 2.518 Overspeed
  • Continuous Output Torque of 300 ft-lb.
  • Max Instantaneous Output Torque of 500 ft-lb.
  • Max Accel / Decel Rate of 2,000 rpm/sec at Output
  • Approximate Weight of 1,200 lbs.
  • Lubricant AGMA #1 or Equivalent

New Wet Clutch Gearbox Model SR2347E

Cotta recently designed and built this new Wet Clutch Gearbox Model SR2347E for a hydraulics and tooling company in Colorado. Our Model SR2347E is a single-stage reduction gearbox designed for direct mounting to industrial engines via an SAE flange and driven in standard engine rotation (clockwise facing input shaft). This unit incorporates an idler shaft to provide output rotation same as input. The SR2347 Speed Reducer features a Cotta multi-disc wet type master clutch and is coupled to the engine via a torsional dampener. Our wet clutch option provides lower maintenance, extended clutch life, and remote actuation for ease of operation. This particular SR2347E for our customer includes Remote Monitoring capability, allowing them to view real-time performance parameters of specific gearbox functions on a customized dashboard accessed via webpage.

Model Series SR2347E Wet Clutch Gearbox Specifications:

  • Max Input Torque of 2600 lb-ft.
  • Max Input Speed of 2,200 rpm, or as otherwise limited by flywheel coupling
  • Ratio Range of 1.28 to 3.0
  • Output Shaft of 4″ diameter, 9″ long, 1″ x ½” keyway at a standard 6 o’clock position
  • Approximate Weight of 1,600 lbs.

High-Speed Gearbox SN2285 for Aerospace Product Testing

Cotta recently designed and built this new High-Speed Gearbox Model SN2285 for testing use on aerospace products by a customer in the Indianapolis, IN area. Our Model SN2285 is a foot-mounted, single increasing stage, single output, high-speed gearbox that is designed for test stand use. This model comes standard with a double-keyed stub input shaft and an aerospace output mounting pad. The input can be driven clockwise or counterclockwise, with the output rotating in opposite direction to the input. Due to its compact size, this gearbox is designed to operate with a remote lube supply.

Model Series SN2285 High-Speed Gearbox Specifications:

  • Nominal Power of 150 hp at 70,000 rpm
  • Max Output Speed of 85,000 rpm
  • Ratios of 5:1 or 6:1 overspeed; other ratios are available
  • Max Accel / Decel Rate of 2,000 rpm/sec at output
  • Approximate Weight of 300 lbs.
