Top Head Drive Gearboxes in Assembly

Cotta has some more Top Head Drive gearboxes going through assembly. The units will be used in a rotary drill application that drills big holes in large quarries, petroleum extraction, open pit mines, etc.  The gearboxes are built to be reliable, and to operate in extremely harsh environments.  See specifications below:

Cotta continues to solidify our reputation as a preferred high-performance gearbox supplier by consistently improving our current line of products along with developing new innovative products.  We systematically and comprehensively monitor the quality of all internal processes.  First-piece inspection is conducted on every machining sequence, starting at the source to support our zero-defect policy, and then we assemble and test every transmission product we ship from our plant.

To further enhance these capabilities, Cotta made the investment in an all-new test lab that went operational in 2015.  Our state-of-the-art gearbox test facility includes three programmable test cells:

HIGH SPEED TESTING:

  • 500 HP horizontal input (3600 RPM)
  • 8′ x 11′ x 8.5′ test area
  • 25,000+ RPM Input speeds
  • 2-150 GPM temperature-controlled oil lubrication system
  • Multi-channel FFT spectrum analysis

LOW SPEED TESTING:

  • 20 HP horizontal input
  • 7′ x 16′ x 7′ test area

SPECIAL PURPOSE TESTING:

  • 30 HP fully-adjustable orientation input
  • 7′ x 19′ x 7′ test area

OUR TEST LAB ALSO FEATURES:

  • Remote shifting
  • Fully shielded and interlocked area
  • Up to 5-ton crane capacity
  • Temperature, pressure, flow, vibration, load, sound, and audiovisual surveillance with DVR

Retirement Celebration

The Cotta team gathered today to celebrate with their co-workers, Rob Bauman and Bruce Lumpkin, as they enter into retirement.  Rob was employed by Cotta for 10 years working in the shipping department, and Bruce was employed by Cotta for 14 years working in the area of hobs and manuals.  Both Rob and Bruce played pivotal roles in Cotta’s success throughout their years of employment.

We are all extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with Rob and Bruce, and appreciate their hard work and commitment to Cotta over the years.  We wish both of them a happy and healthy retirement!

CNC Lathe & Mill Machinist Positions

Cotta Transmission specializes in providing engineered gearbox solutions to customers in numerous markets worldwide.  Cotta’s high-performance products and collaborative team of experts has attributed to the company’s success for over 100 years.   As Cotta continues to grow, we are looking to add CNC lathe and mill machinists to join our team.

Job Description:

  • Set up, operate and tend lathe and/or mill to turn, bore, thread, form or face metal or plastic materials, such as wire, rod, bar stock, castings, weldments
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, etc.
  • Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
  • Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
  • Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
  • Set machines to complete full cycles
  • Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
  • Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
  • Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality

Work schedule is based on seniority, and will most likely be a 2nd shift position.

40+ Year Cotta Employee Celebrates Retirement

Cotta employees gathered today for Ray Labunski’s retirement celebration. Ray has been an integral part of Cotta’s engineering team for over 40 years. He has made tremendous contributions, and will always be valued and remembered for his hard work, commitment, and dedication.  Some other past Cotta retirees, who were employed 40+ years, came back to join in the celebration as well.

Everyone at Cotta wishes Ray a happy and healthy retirement! Ray is certainly going to be missed, but will always be a part of the Cotta family!
