NLB Corporation has been leading the way in water jet productivity since 1971, offering a wide range of high-pressure and UHP water jet pump units, water blasting equipment and accessories. NLB had been using Horton Clutch prior to switching over to Cotta Transmission almost 20 years ago. Since switching suppliers, NLB has had great success using Cotta gearboxes on all of their truck mounted systems.
The NLB Starjet is a self-contained system with rotating water jets on a robotic arm that is mounted to the front of a truck. The Cotta gearbox is being used as a creep drive to give the trucks a controlled and precise travel speed. The Starjet System is used to remove pavement markings, as well as runway rubber buildup. The travel speed is very important when utilizing high pressure water (40,000 PSI). If the travel speed is too fast, the required marking will not be 100% removed. If the travel speed is too slow, the base surface could be damaged. The creep drive that NLB uses has a minimum travel speed of 10 ft/minute to a max speed of 350 ft/minute. The system will hold the set speed whether the equipment is full of water or empty of water, going uphill or downhill. This precise travel speed allows NLB’s customers to perform flawlessly over the competition that uses other gearboxes.
NLB Corporation is launching their newest model Starjet SRV-7 that also uses a Cotta gearbox.

Cotta is completing the assembly and paint process on split shaft PTO’s that will be used in heavy duty, over-the-road coil tubing semi tractors which are used to drill oil wells. The gross weight of one of these units averages over 100,000 lbs, with the trailer having 6 axels, and the truck having 3 axels due to the weight. In this application, the injector head is suspended in the air over a well, and there is a continuous roll of high pressure coil of drill pipe, with some of it being 4,000 ft. long and weighing thousands of pounds. The injector head unrolls and straightens the tube, and injects it into the well. The gearbox is being used to run all of the hydraulic accessories on the trailer. While in road mode the drive shaft, which passes through the gearbox, allows the truck to be driven.
Specifications:
Ratio: 1 to 1 PTO Drive
Max Input Speed: 3000 RPM
Max Torque: 1200 Ft-Lb Thru Gears
Thru Drive Torque: 12500 Ft-Lb
Approximate Weight: 540 Lb

Cotta T series lube systems support the lube requirement of Cotta gearboxes that do not have sufficient internal reservoir capacity for standalone operation. The systems are available in five sizes from 5 to 60 gallon tank capacity. These units are custom configured according to gearbox requirements for lubricant type, pressure, flow, and filtration. Some systems are unitized and shipped assembled. Non-unitized systems are shipped as sub-assemblies for customer completion.
Additional Information:
Capacity: T series lube stands are available as described by the number after the letter “T” indicating max tank capacity in gallons – not flow or working capacity. T5, T17, T20, T40, and T60.
Pump: Positive displacement single or multiple-section pumps are utilized. Multiple-section pumps support ancillary functions, such as labyrinth seal scavenge or charge pressure to additional test components.
Motor: Standard industrial electrical motors sized to meet pump power requirements. Discuss with Cotta your facility electrical requirements.
Heat Exchanger: Shell-and-tube oil/water heat exchangers are standard. Plate type oil/water heat exchangers and oil/air radiators are options for some T units.
Temperature Control: Liquid cooled units use a temperature sensing modulated valve to regulate temperature by controlling water flow to the heat exchanger. Radiators use calibrated temperature switches for fan actuation.
Temperature/Pressure Switch: lubricant over-temperature and under-pressure switches for integration into customer controls are optional.
Level Indicator: Glass plug sight gage or vertical glass tube are typical. Electronic level sensor is optional.
Filter: Bypass type. Micron is application dependent.
